Thermogravimetry as a Research Method in the Transformation Processes of Waste Rubber and Plastic Products for Energy Carriers (WtE and WtL Processes)

Abstract: The paper describes the basic problems regarding the possibility of using waste plastics and tire rubber waste as raw materials for the preparation of liquid energy carriers for transport (WtL processes) or directly to energy use in a WtE. Simultaneous measurements were performed at Thermal Analyzer STA 449 F3 Jupiter's (Netzsch). The study was conducted for waste samples of different density polyethylene, polyethylene terephthalate and rubber from waste tires. Gasification process of subjecting the sample was… Show more

“…The work of the two researchers was very important not so much for the results achieved as for the fact that they established, at the beginning of the recycling era, that was not fully possible to define the kinetics at each transformation stage, because of the complexity of plastic mixture waste. Their studies were carried out in order to pre-determine the kinetics of thermal decomposition, showing the complexity of the reactions occurring during decomposition and the enthalpy change of the process [ 26 ].…”

“…Thermal analysis of dithiocarbamate complexes can be studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TG/TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and differential thermogravimetric analysis (DTA/DTG) in the presence of nitrogen or oxygen gas [57]. Thermal analysis has the capacity to provide important details concerning melting point, residue form, structural properties, and weight loss at the end of the decomposition process [96, 97]. The TGA can be done separately or done at this same time with DSC/DTA [38, 96, 97].…”

“…[17] The economic development rate is indefensible without the saving of hydrocarbons fuel energy. [18][19] Waste plastics have the excellent potential because they are converted 70 to 90% in liquid fuel during pyrolysis process. Recently, the author used four metal carbonate catalysts to convert plastics into liquid hydrocarbons.…”
