Thin Film Coating with Highly Dispersible Barium Titanate-Polyvinylpyrrolidone Nanoparticles

Abstract: Thin BaTiO3 (BT) coating layers are required in various multilayer ceramic technologies, and fine nanosized BT particles with good dispersion in solution are essential for this coating process. In this work, cubic and tetragonal phase monodispersed BT nanoparticles—which were referred to as LBT and HBT-PVP coated on their surface by polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) polymer—were prepared by low temperature synthesis (LTS) and hydrothermal method (HT) at 80 and 230 °C, respectively. They were applied for the thin film… Show more

“…BaTiO 3 nanoparticles (BTO NPs) coated with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) (average size of 200 nm) were purchased from U.S. Research Nanomaterials, Inc. The PVP coated BTO NPs were used to achieve uniform dispersion of nanoparticles in EtOH. , The poly(vinylidenefluoride- co -trifluoroethylene) (70/30) powder was obtained from Piezotech, France. The PVDF-TrFE powder (2 g) was dissolved in N , N -dimethylformamide (DMF) solvent (8 g) to prepare a 20 wt % solution.…”

“…PVP is also a very good choice for making hydrogels [ 40 , 41 , 42 ]. The use of PVP opens up additional opportunities for the synthesis and stabilization of metal nanopowders [ 43 , 44 ], modification of various substances and materials [ 45 , 46 , 47 , 48 , 49 , 50 ], the improvement of modern technologies [ 51 , 52 , 53 ], the obtainment of new functional materials [ 54 , 55 , 56 , 57 ] and, accordingly, the expansion their application field.…”

“…Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) has attracted much attention due to its impressive properties, such as its biocompatibility, nontoxicity, solubility in water and many organic solvents, pH stability, affinity to complex both hydrophobic and hydrophilic substances, and status as chemically inert in physiological reactions [34]. The use of PVP opens additional opportunities for the synthesis [35] and stabilization of metal nanopowders [36,37], modification of various substances [38,39] and materials [40,41], improvement of modern technologies [42,43], production of new functional materials [44,45], and the respective expansion of their fields of use [10,46].…”
