Three-body correlations in direct reactions: Example of Be6 populated in the ( p,n ) reaction

Abstract: The 6 Be continuum states were populated in the charge-exchange reaction 1 H(6 Li, 6 Be)n collecting very high statistics data (∼5 × 10 6 events) on the three-body α + p + p correlations. The 6 Be excitation energy region below ∼3 MeV is considered, where the data are dominated by contributions from the 0 + and 2 + states. It is demonstrated how the high-statistics few-body correlation data can be used to extract detailed information on the reaction mechanism. Such a derivation is based on the fact that highly… Show more

“…of 5 Li is a broad resonance with a proton decay width of Γ = 1.23 MeV. The three-body decay of 6 Be is not completely understood [4,5,21,23,[51][52][53][54]. Indeed, the diproton structure predicted by theory and the measured broad angular correlation of the emitted protons have been viewed as self-contradictory.…”

“…The external correlations are connected with spin alignment of three-body systems populated in reactions. Practical significance of such studies for the three-body systems is discussed in the papers [27][28][29][30] and in the review [31]. No information of this kind is available for the electromagnetic dissociation (EMD) of three-body systems and no further discussion of this topic will be provided here.…”
