Three-dimensional modulations on the states of polarization of light fields

Abstract: Light fields with spatially structured states of polarization (SoPs) are gathering increasing attention because of their potential applications from optical imaging and micromanipulation to classical and quantum communications. Meanwhile, the concepts within structured light fields have been extended and applied to acoustic, electron, and matter waves. In this article, we review recent developments of the SoP modulation of light fields, especially focusing on three-dimensional (3D) modulations on the SoPs of l… Show more

Recently, a form-birefringent was demonstrated by Capasso et al to impart the arbitrary polarization along the propagation direction without a priori knowledge of the incident polarization [52].…”

“…It enables more comprehensive multidimensional uorescence detection. EEMF has been widely applied in the elds of environment 4,5,6 , agriculture 7,8,9 , petroleum 10,11,12 , biology 13,14,15,16 , pharmaceuticals 17 , and foods 18,19 for its convenience, rich information, signi cant features, and high selectivity 20,21,22 . However, given the presence of signi cant interference noise and overlapping uorescence information, effective feature extraction and analysis methods for three-dimensional uorescence are essential.…”

“…SAM is inherent in light beams with elliptical polarization states and depends on the field vector rotations that take place at every point of the beam crosssection. [9,10] The SAM degree of freedom of light plays a key role in optical communication systems. [11,12] For example, dual polarization in fiber optic eigenvalue communication has been reported recently in order to overcome the limitation of information transmission in conventional optical communication systems.…”
