Abstract: LONG-TERM GOALSBoth physical oceanographic processes and marine geological features in the continental shelf can cause the medium properties to have lateral heterogeneity, so horizontal refraction of sound can occur and produce significant three-dimensional (3-D) sound propagation effects.
