Three new solvent-directed 3D lead(ii)–MOFs displaying the unique properties of luminescence and selective CO2 sorption

Abstract: Three new solvent-directed three-dimensional (3D) lead(II) coordination polymers, [Pb2(L)2]n (1), [Pb3(L)3]n (2) and [Pb(L)]·H2O (3) [H3L = 2-(pyridine-2-yl)-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid], have been synthesized solvothermally. As influenced by different solvent systems, compounds 1 and 3 exhibit varying architectures from a multi-nodal 3,3,4,4-connected to a uninodal 3-connected net, while 2 with helices represents a binodal 3,4-connected topological net. Moreover, 3 possesses a micropore which is decora… Show more

“…This phenomenon will be effective only when LUMO of NB can accept the charge from LUMO of the donor CP. For this the LUMO of 3 should have higher energy level in comparison to the LUMOs of NB . It is confirmed from the LUMO energy parameters of 3 as well as NB (Figure ), the LUMO energy levels for NB is low with respect to 3 and hence NB can accept charge from 3 during photo‐excitation.…”

“…The lead(II) complexes with multi-functional organic ligands have attracted considerable attention owing to their unusual structures, and functional properties such as luminescence, adsorption and biological function [2][3]. Lead(II) tends toward the formation of complexes where the central atom bears a combination of O, N, and S-donor ligands complex and coordination numbers can range from two up to ten, and even twelve in rare cases [4][5][6][7].…”

“…To the best of our knowledge, Pb II MOFs from the imidazole dicarboxylate ligands have only been found recently. Six 3D polymers [Pb(HIDC)(H 2 O)] n ,18 [Pb 8 (PyIDC) 2 ] (PyH 3 IDC = 2,2‐pyridyl‐1 H ‐imidazole‐4,5‐dicarboxylic acid),19 [Pb( p ‐MePhH 2 IDC) 2 ] n ( p ‐MePhH 3 IDC = 2‐ p ‐methylphenyl‐1 H ‐imidazole‐4,5‐dicarboxylic acid),20 [Pb(PyIDC)] n , [Pb 2 (PyIDC) 2 ] n , and [Pb 3 (PyIDC) 3 ] n 21 have been reported. Polymer II is the first example of a Pb II polymer built by the ligand p ‐BrPhH 3 IDC.…”
