Three-Phase Mixed Titania Powder Modified by Silver and Silver Chloride with Enhanced Photocatalytic Activity under UV–Visible Light

Abstract: Pure and Ag/AgCl-modified titania powders with anatase/rutile/brookite three-phase mixed structure were prepared by one-step hydrothermal method. The effects of Ag/Ti atomic percentages on the structure and photocatalytic performance of TiO2 were investigated. The results showed that pure TiO2 consisted of three phases, anatase, rutile, and brookite, and that Ag addition promoted the transformation from anatase to rutile. When the molar ratio of Ag/Ti reached 4%, the AgCl phase appeared. The addition of Ag had… Show more

“…The three strong peaks in the XRD diffraction pattern of Mus appearing at 8.9°, 26.8° and 45.5° correspond to the (002), (006) and (029) crystal planes. The diffraction peaks of PT at 2θ = 25.3°, 37.8° and 48.1° correspond to the (101), (004) and (200) crystal planes of anatase, respectively, which means that TiO 2 is single-phase anatase [ 32 , 34 ]. The diffraction peaks of anatase and Mus appear in the pattern of TM simultaneously, indicating that TiO 2 /Mus composites are formed.…”

“…Figure 5 b shows the high-resolution spectrum of Ti 2p. The two peaks at 458.0 and 463.5 eV are indexed to Ti 2p 3/2 and Ti 2p 1/2 , indicating that Ti element exists in the form of 4+ [ 32 , 40 , 41 ]. The high-resolution spectrum of O 1s is shown in Figure 5 c. The two peaks at 529.8 and 531.1 eV correspond to lattice oxygen (O 2− ) and surface hydroxyl (OH − ) [ 42 , 43 ].…”

“…Metal oxide nanomaterials have attracted extensive attention in the field of catalysis. [119,120] Their photogenerated electron-hole pairs can transit to the surface and reduce/oxide the adsorbed substance, respectively. [121][122][123] Pt has been introduced into the TiO 2 nanotube to enhance the indirect electrical transfer between the NMs and the metal oxide.…”

“…Among them, the effect of crystalline forms on the photocatalytic activity of TiO 2 is particularly important [ 24 ]. It is well known that TiO 2 exists in three crystalline forms, anatase, rutile and brookite [ 25 ]. Brookite is rarely used in the photocatalytic applications due to its instability [ 26 ].…”
