Throughput analysis and optimization of cognitive radio networks using incremental relaying

Abstract: In this paper, we derive the throughput and Bit Error Probability of incremental relaying for cognitive radio networks. Relaying in the secondary network is performed only when the SNR of the direct link is lower than a predefined threshold β. Also, all relays must verify interference constraints: the generated interference to primary receiver must be below a chosen threshold (T ) so that the primary throughput is larger than a predefined value. The analysis is valid for different relay selection techniques: O… Show more

“…Assessment of QoS parameters in cognitive relay‐based communication systems is receiving too much attention in the literature. In the work of Alnwaimi and Boujemaa, the throughput and bit error probability of incremental relaying in underlay cognitive radio network is discussed. The maximization of throughput of both PU and SU is the aim of this paper.…”

“…The strategy of signal relaying (ie, AF or DF) in the cooperative communication aspect and the type of underlay/overlay strategy with the interference threshold/false alarm (detection of idle and busy states of PU) in cognitive radio aspect are critical challenges of this hybrid technology. These challenges are discussed in the literature . Furthermore, the performance analysis reflected on the QoS parameters of the cooperative cognitive communication systems in common fading channels such as Nakagami‐m fading is also discussed …”

“…The maximization of throughput of both PU and SU is focused in this paper. In [14], authors have proposed a novel cooperative wideband spectrum sensing scheme using over-the-air computation for wireless sensor networks. The main idea is to use the superposition property of wireless channels to implement the summation of Fourier transform to obtain better decision on spectrum sharing.…”

“…The strategy of relaying in cooperative part and the type of UL or OL strategy with interference threshold or false detection of idle/busy state of PU in cognitive part can be some challenges of this combinatory technology. These challenges are discussed in literature [13][14][15][16][17]. Moreover, the performance analysis of the cooperative cognitive communication system (CCS) is mainly discussed in these papers for evaluation of QoS parameters.…”
