Tibial bypass grafting for limb salvage with ringed polytetrafluoroethylene prostheses: Results of primary and secondary procedures

Abstract: Although the patency of prosthetic grafts is not as satisfactory as that of autologous vein grafts, the limb salvage rate justifies an aggressive approach to infrapopliteal bypass grafting with polytetrafluoroethylene prostheses when the limb is threatened and vein is not available.

“…In our series infrapopliteal revascularization was feasible in only 65 % (38 out of better patency rates. 6,26,30 However, there are reports that show better results in diabetic patients 33 when 58) diabetic patients, compared with 75 % (71 out of 94) non-diabetic patients. If we consider patients who compared to non-diabetic ones.…”

“…The analysis been associated with a rise in the number of distal (crural/pedal) arterial bypass grafts. [4][5][6][7] Although the was undertaken to compare the outcome in diabetic and non-diabetic populations, with respect to patency, limb technical feasibility of distal arterial reconstruction is now well established, 8,9 many questions still remain salvage, and survival rates. We also compared the hospital cost of revascularization and amputation between unanswered, particularly regarding the appropriate use of these procedures and their long-term durability.…”

“…Adjuvant AV fistulas are rarely used in autogenous vein grafts (84). They are mainly indicated for synthetic bypass operations (30,62), in which the effect of runoff on patency rates is more obvious (142). For such grafts to stay open, the velocity of blood flow through them needs to be higher than in autologous grafts (139).…”
