Tissue Factor Pathway Inhibitor-1 Is a Valuable Marker for the Prediction of Deep Venous Thrombosis and Tumor Metastasis in Patients with Lung Cancer

Abstract: Activation of blood coagulation contributes to cancer progression. Tissue factor pathway inhibitor-1 (TFPI-1) is the main inhibitor of extrinsic coagulation pathway. The aim of this study is to assess the predicting significance of TFPI-1 for thrombotic complication and metastasis in lung cancer patients. Total of 188 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients were included in this study. Plasma TFPI-1, D-dimer (D-D), antithrombin (AT), Fibrinogen (Fbg), and coagulating factor VIII activity (FVIII:C) were mea… Show more

“…In other words, cutaneous enoxaparin can shrink the tumor size and also, our results are confirmed by microscope which there was no sign of tumor at the high dose of enoxaparin. Our results were confirmed by other studies [7][8][9]. Enoxaparin in different forms has an inhibitory effect on various cancers [10][11][12][13][14][15].…”

“…Breast cancer cells can become metastatic through angiogenesis [5,6]. Blood coagulation inhibitors prevent the proliferation of lung, digestive tract, and breast cancer cells [7,8]. Furthermore, heparin may have an inhibitory effect on metastasis in breast cancer cells [9].…”

“…Samples were collected and prepared as described previously [ 19 ]. In brief, venous blood of patients was collected in the morning after an overnight fast for measurements of routine hemostatic parameters including prothrombin time (PT), international normalized ratio (INR), activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), thrombin time (TT), fibrinogen (FIB), D-dimer (D-D), platelet (PLT) count, and fibrinogen-D-dimer ratio (FDR) before treatment, respectively.…”

“…Furthermore, Fei et al. proved that the combination of D-dimer and tissue factor pathway inhibitor-1 (TFPI-1) measurement played an important role in predicting deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in cancer patients [27]. These researches implied that the poor prognosis of patients with elevated D-dimer level may be correlated with high incidence of venous thrombosis in cancer patients [28].…”
