“…In this study, significantly enhanced expression of TLR5 was observed in both head kidney and intestine of fish fed heat‐killed B. clausii DE5, which may indicate that the cell components of heat‐killed B. clausii DE5 has been recognized by TLRs. Consequently, enhanced expression of IL‐1β was observed in fish fed heat‐killed B. clausii DE5, which is consistent with previous reports that heat‐killed probiotics enhanced the expression of IL‐1β in Japanese puffer fish ( Takifugu rubripes ) (Biswas et al., ), grouper ( E. coioides ) (Sun et al., ) and Atlantic cod ( Gadus morhua ) (Lazado & Caipang, ). At the same time, significantly upregulated expression of IL‐8 in E. coioides fed heat‐killed B. clausii DE5 was observed as IL‐1β stimulates the IL‐8 release (Laing & Secombes, ).…”

“…The proximate analysis of the basal diet according to the AOAC method was as follows: 506.3 g/kg crude protein, 103.2 g/kg crude lipid, 98.6 g/kg ash, 1.84 g/kg crude fibre and 944.9 g/kg dry matter (AOAC ). Control diet was prepared as described by (Sun et al., ). Live and heat‐inactivated B. clausii DE5 suspensions were sprayed into the basal diet and mixed part‐by‐part in a mixer to obtain a final probiotic concentration of 1.0 × 10 8 CFU/g.…”

“…The grouper aquaculture industry has been well developed in China and South‐East Asia countries, resulting from increasing market demand (Ma, Wang, Liao & Yang, ; Sun, Xia, Yang, Wang & Zou, ). Unfortunately, the rapid development of intensive grouper culture leads to incidences of infectious disease caused by bacteria, viruses and parasites that have become more and more frequent which result in serious economic losses in farms and hatcheries (Son et al., ; Harikrishnan et al., , ).…”
