Abstract: Purpose: Retinal pigment epithelial cells exhibit a propensity for apoptosis in Stargardt macular dystrophy (STGD). Previously, single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) gene have been related to apoptosis and inflammatory response.
