Topical 5-fluorouracil solution in the treatment of warts—clinical experience and percutaneous absorption

Abstract: Disseminated warts in six patients were pre-treated with topical 5-fluorouracil solution three times daily for 5 consecutive days. Curettage was then carried out under local anaesthesia. During pre-treatment less than 0.1% of the dose applied was absorbed through the skin. The warts had not reappeared in 5 of the 6 patients at follow-up 1 year later.
