Torsional wave in an initially stressed layer lying between two inhomogeneous media

Abstract: In the present paper, case wise studies have been made to investigate the existence of torsional surface wave in an initially stressed isotropic heterogeneous layer sandwiched between two inhomogeneous semi infinite media. Two cases have been discussed separately for wave propagation in an inhomogeneous layer between homogeneous and non-homogeneous half spaces, respectively. The dispersion relations of torsional surface wave for both the cases have been obtained in closed form. The effect of inhomogeneity para… Show more

“…On a theoretical level, several researchers and authors have considered the pre-stressed media to understand the propagation of seismic surface waves. The dispersion relation was developed by Dhua and Chattopadhyay, 19 Kundu et al, 20 and Chattaraj et al 21 so that the propagation of surface waves in different sorts of pre-stressed media could be better understood. The pre-stressed media through which the seismic surface waves propagate has a significant impact on their propagation.…”

“…(2013), Vishwakarma et al. (2013) and Dhua and Chattopadhyay (2015) on torsional wave propagation cannot be ignored, as their contributions are laudable. Sofiyev and Schnack (2004) studied the effects of dynamic torsional loading on functionally graded cylindrical shells.…”

“…Kondaiah et al (2012Kondaiah et al ( , 1013 studied pyroelectric and pyromagnetic materials in presence of electric and magnetic fields and electro-magneto-thermo elastic cantilever beam. Recently, Chattaraj et al (2015) and Dhua and Chattopadhyay (2015) carried out studies to investigate the effects of various heterogeneities and stresses on the propagation of torsional surface wave in sandy and elastic media.…”
