Toward Integrated Molecular Diagnostic System (<formula formulatype="inline"><tex Notation="TeX">$i$</tex></formula> MDx): Principles and Applications

Abstract: Integrated molecular diagnostic systems (iMDx), which are automated, sensitive, specific, user-friendly, robust, rapid, easy-to-use, and portable, can revolutionize future medicine. This review will first focus on the components of sample extraction, preservation, and filtration necessary for all point-of-care devices to include for practical use. Subsequently, we will look for low-powered and precise methods for both sample amplification and signal transduction, going in-depth to the details behind their prin… Show more

“…Nanobiotechnology is now used routinely for in vitro diagnostics in the clinic 7 . For example, gold nano particles (GNPs) are used for pregnancy tests through a colorimetric assay of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in urine by hCG antibody-conjugated GNPs.…”

“…Because in vitro strategies are extensively covered elsewhere 7,9,10 , we focus on nanotechnologies that enhance diagnostic capabilities in vivo . We cover the background physics of several widely accepted imaging modalities and the materials used for in vivo nanodiagnostics, and provide examples of clinical translation.…”

“…Much of the effort has therefore been put into developing microfluidic-based systems for sample preparation upstream of bacterial detection. 184,188197 For instance, Hung and Han’s team reported an inertial microfluidics to rapidly isolate bacteria from whole blood in a label-free fashion with the efficient recovery of even low-abundance bacteria (10–50 bacteria/mL) (Fig. 7).…”

“…21 To achieve this goal, different microfluidic functions must be implemented on a single chip. The actuation transmitter proposed in this study can be easily implemented on a single chip because the actuation transmitter is built with a single-layer design.…”
