The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into sustainable energy management presents a transformative opportunity to elevate the sustainability, reliability, and efficiency of energy systems. This article conducts an exhaustive analysis of the critical aspects concerning the AI-sustainable energy nexus, encompassing the challenges in technological integration and the facilitation of intelligent decision-making processes pivotal for sustainable energy frameworks. It is demonstrated that AI applications, ranging from optimization algorithms to predictive analytics, possess a revolutionary capacity to bolster intelligent decision-making in sustainable energy. However, this integration is not without its challenges, which span technological complexities and socio-economic impacts. The article underscores the imperative for deploying AI in a manner that is transparent, equitable, and inclusive. Best practices and solutions are proposed to navigate these challenges effectively. Additionally, the discourse extends to recent advancements in AI, including edge computing, quantum computing, and explainable AI, offering insights into the evolving landscape of sustainable energy. Future research directions are delineated, emphasizing the importance of enhancing explainability, mitigating bias, advancing privacy-preserving techniques, examining socio-economic ramifications, exploring models of human-AI collaboration, fortifying security measures, and evaluating the impact of emerging technologies. This comprehensive analysis aims to inform academics, practitioners, and policymakers, guiding the creation of a resilient and sustainable energy future.

This research presents a renewable energy system that takes advantage of the energy potential available in the territory. This study emerges as a relevant option to provide solutions to geological risk areas where there are buildings that, due to emergency situations at certain times of the year during deep winter, are a target of danger and where its inhabitants would find it difficult to abandon their properties. The record of mass movements covering the city of Cuenca-Ecuador and part of the province has shown that the main triggering factor of this type of movement comprises the geological characteristics of tertiary formations characterized by lithological components that become unstable in the presence of water and due to their slopes being pronounced. Hybrid systems are effective solutions in distributed electricity generation, especially when it comes to helping people and their buildings in times of great need and the required electricity generation is basic. A hybrid photovoltaic, wind and hydrokinetic system has been designed that supplies electrical energy to a specific area on the opposite geographical side that is completely safe. The renewable energy system is connected to the public electricity grid available on site; however, in the event of an emergency the grid is disconnected for safety and only the hybrid system will work with the support of a battery backup system. In this study, the Homer Pro simulation tool was used and its results indicate that renewable systems that include PV, HKT and WT elements are economically viable, with a COE of USD 0.89/kWh.

This systematic review meticulously explores the transformative impact of digital technologies on the grid planning, grid operations, and energy market dynamics of power distribution grids. Utilizing a robust methodological framework, over 54,000 scholarly articles were analyzed to investigate the integration and effects of artificial intelligence, machine learning, optimization, the Internet of Things, and advanced metering infrastructure within these key subsections. The literature was categorized to show how these technologies contribute specifically to grid planning, operation, and market mechanisms. It was found that digitalization significantly enhances grid planning through improved forecasting accuracy and robust infrastructure design. In operations, these technologies enable real-time management and advanced fault detection, thereby enhancing reliability and operational efficiency. Moreover, in the market domain, they support more efficient energy trading and help in achieving regulatory compliance, thus fostering transparent and competitive markets. However, challenges such as data complexity and system integration are identified as critical hurdles that must be overcome to fully harness the potential of smart grid technologies. This review not only highlights the comprehensive benefits but also maps out the interdependencies among the planning, operation, and market strategies, underlining the critical role of digital technologies in advancing sustainable and resilient energy systems.
