The notion that strain can result as employees' resources are threatened or lost is well established. However, the transition from resource threats to resource losses is an important but understudied aspect of employee strain. We argue that the threat-to-loss transition triggers accelerated resource loss and a shift in how employees utilize their remaining resources unless employees engage in recovery experiences during the transition. Using a discontinuous change framework, we examine employee furloughs-the placement of employees on leave with no salary of any kind-in terms of the transition from resource threat to loss: Resources may be threatened when the furlough is announced and lost when the furlough occurs. Using 4 data collections with 180 state government employees, we found mean levels of emotional exhaustion increased and mean levels of self-reported performance decreased following the furlough. The discontinuous changes in exhaustion and performance were significantly impacted by employees' recovery experiences during the furlough. We discuss the implications of these findings for other threat-to-loss and recovery research as well as for organizations implementing furloughs.

This paper aims to examine and identify Chinese generation Y"s perception towards e-service quality from online tourism products and provide recommendations for enhancing the e-service quality at managerial level. The study adopts the e-service quality framework and data collected through in-depth interviews with 30 interviewees from China. The target group generation Y provided their expectation of e-service quality in on-line tourism products via different website. Their expectation of e-service quality from online tourism products is identified. With the results as basis, recommendations are generated to provide insights for industry practitioners. Besides, the traditional expectation of e-service quality, the research had identified a significant result to the marketers. The results are valuable in assisting online tourism managers and marketers to better understand Chinese generation Y"s expectation and formulate strategies for effective management of customer complaints.

Dynamis: Effective Context-Aware Web Service Selection Using Dynamic Attributes

Quality web service discovery requires narrowing the search space from an overwhelming set of services down to the most relevant ones, while matching the consumer's request. Today, the ranking of services only considers static attributes or snapshots of current attribute values, resulting in low-quality search results. To satisfy the user's need for timely, well-chosen web services, we ought to consider quality of service attributes. The problem is that dynamic attributes can be difficult to measure, frequently fluctuate, are context-sensitive and depend on environmental factors, such as network availability at query time. In this paper, we propose the Dynamis algorithm to address these challenges effectively. Dynamis is based on well-established database techniques, such as skyline and aggregation. We illustrate our approach using observatory telescope web services and experimentally evaluate it using stock market data. In our evaluation, we show significant improvement in service selection over existing techniques.
