TOX3 protein expression is correlated with pathological characteristics in breast cancer

Abstract: TOX3 is a newly identified gene that has been observed to correlate with breast cancer by genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in recent years. In addition, it has been noted that single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the TOX3 gene have a strong correlation with estrogen receptor (ER)-positive tumors. However, the role of TOX3 in breast carcinoma development is still unclear. There are limited studies on the subject of TOX3 mRNA expression in breast tumors and little information on the variation of TOX3 … Show more

“…This suggests that FZD6 probably functions ‘indirectly’ of these markers. In addition, there were some studies that reported some examples of elevated expression of BC biomarkers with either no correlation with ER expression, such as Endoglin ( Guo et al, 2017 ), or not statistically significant in ER-positive BC such as TOX3 protein expression ( Han et al, 2016 ). For the HER2, the worldwide prevalence of its amplification in BCs ranges only between 15 and 30% while in other types of cancer, such as colorectal cancer, HER2 does not show a prognostic value ( Kruszewski et al, 2010 ).…”

“…38 Notably, a report showed that TOX3 is significantly upregulated in advanced stages leading to invasive breast malignancy. 39 Moreover, EOMES and TOX3 expressions are strongly associated with poor prognosis of breast cancer patients. 40,41 These data suggest that, similar to breast cancer, high expression of TOX3 and EOMES in advanced stages might be associated with poor progression of CRC.…”

“…Previous studies had shown that TOX3 was highly expressed in breast cancer tissue, and TOX3 was significantly correlated with TNM stage and tumor grade (C.‐c. Han, Yue, et al, 2016). Our results showed that TOX3 was related to DFS, but not to OS in the TCGA database, consistent with a previous study reporting that TOX3 expression was associated with DFS in pancreatic cancer (Ma et al, 2019).…”
