“…In the present investigation, previous fracture may be more relevant than any BMD measurement. Earlier results , stating that the mandibular trabecular pattern was a better correlate of fracture than was BMD, as it identified 48% of all previous fractures compared with the 19% identified using BMD, may support this. Furthermore, the protective effect of dense trabeculation and the excess risk for sparse trabeculation have been demonstrated in prospective research in which the fracture year was known, all fractures were hospital‐verified and sparse trabeculation was found in 70% of the fracture cases before the fracture date .…”

“…5,6 Also the risk is higher in patients with sparse alveolar trabecular pattern. 7-9 The structure of the trabecular bone is critical for the stability of an endosseous implant and mini-implant. 10 Trabecular bone structure can be evaluated using different approaches.…”

“…It has been suggested that patients with a history of osteoporotic fractures tend to have increased mandibular bone loss and relevant trabecular micro-structural changes [22] . Additionally, a dense trabecular pattern in the mandibular alveolar process has been proven to be a reliable sign of normal BMD in dentate middle-aged subjects whereas a sparse trabecular pattern indicates osteopenia [23] . In developed countries, a large proportion of the population visits dentists annually, and dental radiographs are performed routinely.…”

“…In developed countries, a large proportion of the population visits dentists annually, and dental radiographs are performed routinely. Thus, researchers worldwide have recently tried to develop methods for using the jawbones, especially the mandible, to predict skeletal BMD [23] . The mandibular condyle, one important section of the mandible, is one of the most common sites of OA [24] .…”
