Trace Element Determination by ICP‐AES and ICP‐MS: Developments and Applications Reported During 2004 and 2005

Abstract: This review describes significant developments in trace element determination using inductively coupled plasma‐atomic emission spectrometry (ICP‐AES) and inductively coupled plasma‐mass spectrometry (ICP‐MS) that were reported in 2004 and 2005. It focuses on the application of ICP techniques to geological and environmental samples; fundamental studies in ICP‐MS and ICP‐AES instrumentation are not included. The literature reviewed indicated that the majority of new publications concerned advances in ICP‐MS anal… Show more

“…It provides separation of both inorganic and organic forms of As. The coupling of ICP-MS, ICP-AES and HG-AAS with liquid chromatography has also been widely used for arsenic speciation, since LC offers good separation of many arsenic species using a simple interface for real time measurement 125,126 .…”

“…[103][104][105] Due to its sensitivity and capacity to resolve isobaric overlap, sector eld (SF)-ICP-MS is possibly the most suitable option for elemental speciation research. 106 As speciation in cucumber xylem sap is one instance of an As speciation study employing this method. 107 7.3.5 X-ray spectroscopic techniques.…”

“…Cadmium traces determination result a main topic in environmental, monitoring control processes and toxicological-clinical areas. They are frequently determined by atomic techniques such as atomic absorption spectrometry, inductively coupled plasma (ICP)-atomic emission spectrometry and ICP-mass spectrometry associated to a previous preconcentration step [8][9][10][11]. Particularly, cadmium determination in biological and environmental samples at ultra-trace levels, have been supported by ET-AAS with in-atomizer trapping [12].…”
