This study analyzes 34 tools through 442 publications on energy systems modeling, aiming to identify the most relevant trends in research and the research gaps in energy planning. For detecting these gaps, the publications analyzed were categorized based on pre-defined criteria regarding geographical coverage, sectoral coverage, time horizon, analytical approach and energy source. The categories were designed to be a broad classification with the appropriate level of information required to differentiate between models. The results show that there is a lack of studies concerned with better understanding the energy systems in Africa and South America. Environmentally-oriented publications account for 50.4% of all the publications studied. Modelers have thus shown a greater interest in studying issues related to climate change mitigation than in other areas of the energy chain.

Indonesian society’s dependence on fossil fuel and the minimum GHG emission reduction target of 11% for the energy sector, encourages the development of hydrogen as an eco-friendly renewable energy resource for transportation and industries sector. Electrolysis is one of technology for hydrogen production. Electrolysis technology that utilizes the sun as a generating source is a eco-friendly technology of hydrogen production. The solar intensity in Semarang is 5.49 kWh/m2/day so that is potensial to used for hydrogen production. Solar intensity measurements were carried out in 2 locations in Semarang that have different altitude using single and parallel monocrystalline solar modules with observation from 8am-4pm. The measurement results are used as data for calculated the flow rate and the volume of hydrogen that can be produced. The highest hydrogen volume can be produced in Marina for single and parallel panel are 2,099.93 ml/h and 4,199.86 ml/h that are both at 10am. The highest hydrogen volume can be produced in Tembalang for single and parallel panel are 2,693.39 ml/h at 1pm and 5,751.98 ml/h at 11am. The altitude level of location greatly influences the solar intensity for hydrogen production. Parallel panel can produce hydrogen approximately 2 times single panel.

This paper experimentally analyzes the chemical additives, i.e., methanol and ethanol, as alcohol solvents, and acetone as a ketone solvent, and the temperature influencing the minimum miscibility pressure (MMP) that is essential to design miscible CO 2 flooding at an oil field, the South Sumatra basin, Indonesia. The experiments were designed to measure CO 2 -oil interfacial tension with the vanishing interfacial tension (VIT) method in the ranges up to 3000 psi (208.6 bar) and 300 degrees Celsius. The experiment results show that lower temperatures, larger solvent volumes, and the acetone were effective in reducing MMP. The acetone, an aprotic ketone solvent, reduced MMP more than the methanol and the ethanol in the CO 2 -oil system. The high temperature was negative to obtain the high CO 2 solubility into the oil as well as the lower MMP. The experimental results confirm that the aprotic ketone solvent could be effective in decreasing the MMP for the design of miscible CO 2 flooding at the shallow mature oilfields with a low reservoir temperature.
