Traffic Accident Traits and Driver Characteristics Implication on Road Accidents using Descriptive Analysis: A Cross Sectional Study in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq

Abstract: The current study focuses on disclosing the types and causes of traffic events in the Sulaymaniyah governorate and their association with driver implications. The study was conducted between September 2019 and August 2020 in cooperation with the General Directorate of Traffic. A total of 573 traffic accident forms were directly collected at the site of crush events. “…It should be noted that AP density is one parameter that affects the frequency of accidents along various classes of roads. The literature indicates that apart from this parameter, other factors that affect accident occurrence are over-speeding, negligent driving, alcohol intake, and violation of traffic laws [25,26,27]. As a result, these factors are required to be explored in combination with the AP density.…”

“…In [8], the variability of the start response time was linked to saturation flow rates, crucial for signal performance. In [9,10] factors affecting the start-up delays, aiding intersection design, and phasing decisions were identified. In [11], a Mullered Model accurately estimated delays, facilitating traffic analysis.…”
