“…A literature search of publications dating from 1985 revealed no randomized, controlled trials, or other controlled studies, of the effectiveness of community occupational therapy on the performance of daily activities by older individuals with cognitive impairments, or on the sense of competence of their primary caregivers. A few articles regarding occupational therapy interventions were found concerning methods of diagnosis, goal setting, and occupational therapy treatment for older individuals with cognitive impairments (Borell, Gustavsson, Sandman, & Kielhofner, 1994;Corcoran & Gitlin, 1992;Eertwegh, Mathijssen, van Soest, & Spee, 1995;Gitlin & Corcoran, 1991, 1995[osephsson, 1994;Phynoos & Ohta, 1991;Uden, 1998). Some studies reported positive experiences using environmental adaptations for older individuals with cognitive impairments and their caregivers (Chen, Mann, Tomita, & Nochajski, 2000;Gitlin & Corcoran, 1993, 1995Gitlin & Levine, 1992;Gitlin, Levine, & Geiger, 1993).…”
