Traitement de l'air par biofiltration

Abstract

Depuis plusieurs décennies, le traitement de l'air contaminé par des solvants organiques volatils fait l'objet de maintes recherches et tentatives dans le but de trouver le procédé le plus efficace et le moins onéreux. En parallèle aux diverses technologies traditionnelles de traitement de l'air, on assiste ces dernières années à l'émergence de procédés biologiques, en particulier la biofiltration qui semble constituer une avenue très appréciée de par son efficacité, son aspect environnemental et son moindre coût. Dans cet article, la technologie de biofiltration est située par rapport aux techniques conventionnelles et aux autres procédés biologiques de traitement de l'air. Par la suite, après un court historique sur la biofiltration, l'emphase est mise sur le principal objectif de cette revue bibliographique qui est la présentation des connaissances actuelles concernant les principes de base du procédé, les critères d'application, les conditions d'opération qui influencent les performances et la fiabilité de ce procédé et les développements récents sur la modélisation mathématique des biofiltres. Finalement, les applications industrielles et les coûts du procédé de biofiltration sont brièvement discutés.Abstract: During several decades, there have been numerous studies and attempts in the field of the treatment of volatile organic solvent contaminated air, with the aim of finding a more efficient and less expensive process. In parallel with the traditional air treatment technologies, biological processes have emerged in recent years. Biofiltration appears to be a particularly preferred path due to its efficiency, its environmental aspects, and its lower costs. In this paper, the biofiltration technology is positioned in relation to conventional techniques and other biological air treatments. Subsequently, after a short historical account of biofiltration, the focus is put on the main objective of this literature review, presenting the current knowledge about the basic principles of the process, its applicability, operational conditions that influence performance and reliability of this process, and recent developments in mathematical biofilter modeling. Finally, industrial applications and biofiltration processing costs are briefly discussed.
