Transcriptome Analysis Reveals Candidate Genes involved in Blister Blight defense in Tea (Camellia sinensis (L) Kuntze)

Abstract: To unravel the molecular mechanism of defense against blister blight (BB) disease caused by an obligate biotrophic fungus, Exobasidium vexans, transcriptome of BB interaction with resistance and susceptible tea genotypes was analysed through RNA-seq using Illumina GAIIx at four different stages during ~20-day disease cycle. Approximately 69 million high quality reads were assembled de novo, yielding 37,790 unique transcripts with more than 55% being functionally annotated. Differentially expressed, 149 defense… Show more

“…NGS approach has been successfully utilized to elucidate key genes and regulators of complex biosynthetic pathways in a number of non-model plants. De novo spatial transcriptome sequencing approach in T. govanianum , as performed in this study has also implicated the NGS technology in elucidation of molecular mechanism of complex biosynthesis pathways404142.…”

“…Due to unavailability of significant protein information in bamboo, predetermined protein-protein interaction (PPI) network of Arabidopsis thaliana (ftp://ftp.arabidopsis.org/home/tair/Proteins/Protein_interaction_data/Interactome2.0/) was used for mapping the recognized transcripts as previously described (Jayaswall et al, 2016). Putative growth related transcripts were searched against Arabidopsis proteome to find putative targets using blastx (1e −5 ) and mapped to PPI network.…”

“…Similarly, higher expression of xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/hydrolase is reported to be associated with abiotic stress in hot pepper (Choi et al, 2011) and tea (Jayaswall et al, 2016). Well known herbicide detoxifying enzyme, glutamate dehydrogenase (Block et al, 1987) was found to be highly expressed in resistant genotype as already reported in tobacco (Nolte et al, 2004).…”
