Transcriptome sequencing and analysis of zinc-uptake-related genes in Trichophyton mentagrophytes

Abstract: Background Trichophyton mentagrophytes is an important zoonotic dermatophytic (ringworm) pathogen; causing severe skin infection in humans and other animals worldwide. Fortunately, commonly used fungal skin disease prevention and treatment measures are relatively simple. However, T. mentagrophytes is primarily studied at the epidemiology and drug efficacy research levels, yet current study has been unable to meet the needs of clinical medicine.Zinc is a crucial trace element for the growth and reproduction of … Show more

“…Studies regarding the mechanisms involved in zinc homeostasis in the genera Blastomyces, Histoplasma, and Trichophyton are scarce. However, the information obtained so far demonstrates similarities to those mechanisms previously described [ 25 , 98 , 99 , 100 ]. Analysis of gene expression in a mouse model of infection revealed the induction of genes orthologs to ZAP1, ZRT1, ZRT2, and PRA1 in B. dermatitidis [ 25 ].…”

“…The transcription factor is essential for growth under zinc-limited conditions and is also important for conidiation. Additionally, possible zrfA, zrfB, and zrfC orthologs were also found, but functional analyses are still unavailable [ 100 ].…”

“…With Nr annotation, the Blast2GO program (v2.5.0) with default parameters was used to obtain GO annotation of the unigenes (Conesa et al, 2005). After GO annotation for every unigene, WEGO software (Ye et al, 2006) was used for GO functional classification and graphical representation of GO terms (Zhang et al, 2017). InterProScan5 was used for InterPro annotation (Quevillon et al, 2005).…”

“…The sequencing and annotation of several dermatophyte genomes provide resources that aid in elucidating their mechanisms of virulence. Next‐generation transcriptome sequencing has greatly improved our understanding of the genetic mechanisms of pathogenicity in other dermatophyte species 9,10 . To date, however, a high‐quality reference genome for T. schoenleinii is still unavailable, neither its transcriptomic profile.…”
