Transcriptomic and biochemical analyses of drought response mechanism in mung bean (Vignaradiata (L.) Wilczek) leaves

Abstract: Drought is a major factor that limiting mung bean development. To clarify the molecular mechanism of mung bean in response to drought stress, 2 mung bean groups were established, the experimental group (drought-treated) and the control group (normal water management). With prominent difference of 2 groups in stomatal conductance, relative water content and phenotype, leaf samples were collected at 4 stages, and the physiological index of MDA, POD, chlorophyll, and soluble proteins were estimated. RNA-seq was u… Show more

“…The PLACE website ( http://www.dna.affrc.go.jp/PLACE/signalscan.html ) [ 62 ] was used to identify the cis -acting elements involved in abiotic stress and hormone responses. To gain insight into the expression patterns of VrBBXs genes under drought stress, RNA-Seq data (BioProject: PRJNA764584) was obtained from SRA-NCBI ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sra ) [ 63 ]. Paired-end clean reads were downloaded and aligned to the reference genome using bowtie2.…”

“…Lim et al [123] informed on transcriptomic changes in mungbean sprouts through RNA sequencing, where 728 DEGs were identified for several metabolite biosynthetic pathways. In the recently conducted study by Guo et al [5] on transcriptomic and biochemical analyses of drought response mechanism in mungbean leaves, RNA sequencing-based DEGs were analysed to clarify the molecular mechanism of mungbean in response to drought stress. In this study, the relationship between molecular and physiological changes was analysed to screen candidate gene responses to drought stress in mungbean, which provides a vital foundation for future studies assessing drought resistance in mungbean.…”

“…Mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] or greengram is a self-pollinated, fast-growing, and drought-tolerant legume crop having trifoliate leaves, diploid chromosome set, 2n = 2x = 22, with a genome size ranging from 494 to 579 megabases (Mbs) and mostly adapted to all the tropics and subtropic areas of the world [1][2][3][4][5][6]. Mungbean is the most important legume crop for the agricultural production system and a great source of high-quality protein, minerals, and vitamins [7,8].…”

“…Osmoprotectants such as total soluble sugars and proteins were early accumulated in primed plants during the stress [ 22 ]. Meanwhile, antioxidant protection systems perform an essential function during drought stress [ 23 ]. Many cell components are damaged by reactive oxygen species (ROS) that are generated as a result of decreases in photosynthesis [ 24 ].…”
