Transcriptomic uniqueness and commonality of the ion channels and transporters in the four heart chambers

Abstract: Myocardium transcriptomes of left and right atria and ventricles from four adult male C57Bl/6j mice were profiled with Agilent microarrays to identify the differences responsible for the distinct functional roles of the four heart chambers. Female mice were not investigated owing to their transcriptome dependence on the estrous cycle phase. Out of the quantified 16,886 unigenes, 15.76% on the left side and 16.5% on the right side exhibited differential expression between the atrium and the ventricle, while 5.8… Show more

“…Figure S2 brings another confirmation of the transcriptomic networks’ dependence not only on the cell phenotype (compare regions “N” and “A”), but also on the localization of that phenotype within the tumor (compare “B” and “C”) as we have reported before for the two atria and the two ventricles of the mouse heart [ 68 ]. We found that TP53 activation of the target genes is substantially different among the four profiled regions of the tumor.…”

“…Figure S3 presents the KEGG-identified prostate cancer genes [ 39 ] that are statistically ( p < 0.05) significantly expressed in-phase and in anti-phase among the profiled regions of the tumor. This analysis is based on our model of transcellular transcriptomic networks [ 43 ] that was also recently applied to identify synchronous expression of ion channels between adjacent heart chambers [ 68 ].…”

“…These genes were used only to illustrate the independence of AVE, REV and COR, but any other gene subset would equally prove the independence. It was also proved in previous publications for apoptosis in human thyroid [21], chemokine signaling in human kidney [18] and mouse cortex [80], evading apoptosis in human prostate [33], ionic channels in mouse heart [81] and PI3K-AKT signaling in mouse hippocampus [82]).…”

“…The independence and complementarity of these types of characteristics was proved in Figure 1. It was also proved in previous publications for apoptosis in human thyroid [21], chemokine signaling in human kidney [18] and mouse cortex [65], evading apoptosis in human prostate [31], ionic channels in mouse heart [66], and PI3K-AKT signaling in mouse hippocampus [67]).…”
