Abstract:Unlike electromagnetic actuators, Dielectric Elastomer Actuators (DEAs) can exert a static holding force without consuming a significant amount of power. This is because DEAs are electrostatic actuators where the electric charges exert a Maxwell stress. A charged DEA stores its electrical energy as potential energy, in a similar way to a capacitor. To remove or reduce the Maxwell stress, the stored charge with its associated electrical energy must be removed. Current DEA driver electronics simply dispose of th… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
