Transforming paper-based assessment forms to a digital format: Exemplified by the Housing Enabler prototype app

Abstract: Based on the presented stepwise approach, a high-fidelity Housing Enabler prototype app was successfully developed. The development process has emphasized the importance of combining design participants' knowledge and experiences, and has shown that methods should seem relevant to participants to increase their engagement.

“…Therapists found the program simpler to use than the middle to older age adults and, although there was positive feedback about the potential of the program, there were a number of reservations about using the program in clinical practice, relating mostly to the design and ease of use of the program (Hamm et al, 2017b). Svarre et al took a different approach in that the aim of the design program was to transform an existing paperbased assessment form (the Housing Enabler) into a mobile application (Svarre et al, 2017). The project team consulted with clinicians with and without experience using the Housing Enabler and refined the program until they were satisfied with the application adopting a user-centred and iterative process.…”

“…Most applications have been developed to enable clients to report observations and information for future interventions with therapists. Recent examples include Almeida et al's [11] application for the self-management of psychotic disorders and Svarre et al's [12] application for identifying barriers in clients' homes.…”
