Transient Free Convection Flow Past an Infinite Moving Vertical Cylinder in a Stably Stratified Fluid

Abstract: This paper presents an analytical treatment for the unsteady one-dimensional natural convective flow past an infinite moving vertical cylinder in the presence of thermal stratification. Exact solutions of the dimensionless unsteady coupled linear governing equations are obtained, in terms of Bessel functions by the Laplace transform technique, for the tractable case of unit Prandtl number. Numerical computations for velocity, temperature, skin-friction, and Nusselt number are made for various set of physical p… Show more

“…Some other related studies on free convection flow in a cylinder are given in [ 26 30 ]. In recent investigations, Deka et al [ 31 ] analyzed transient free convection flow past an accelerated vertical cylinder in a rotating fluid whereas Deka and Paul [ 32 ] investigated unsteady one-dimensional free convection flow over an infinite moving vertical cylinder in the presence of thermal stratification. They used Laplace transform technique and obtained the exact solutions, expressed them in the forms of complicated integrals.…”

“…Crane 4 addressed the boundary layer laminar flow over a circular cylinder where the motion of the cylinder causes the flow in a stationary fluid. Analytical approach to the unsteady free convection of viscous fluid flow past vertical cylinder was addressed by Deka and Paul 5,6 and Deka et al 7 Lien et al 8 addressed the free convective laminar flow past a moving vertical cylinder considering mass transfer and heat at flux at the surface. Agrawal et al 9 extended the work of Lien et al 8 by considering the magnetic field effect over a vibrating cylinder.…”

“…In addition, Shapiro and Fedorovich [19] presented an analytical solution for laminar natural convection flows of stably stratified fluid along vertical plates and cylinders subject to periodic surfacetemperature variations. In another article, Deka and Paul [21] investigated the transient free convection flow past an infinite moving vertical cylinder in a stably stratified fluid. Other well-documented results on effect of stratified fluid in convection fluid flow include the works of Shapiro and Fedorovich [22], Deka and Bhattacharya [23] and Magyari et al [24].…”
