Transition Prediction on Turbine Blade Profile With Intermittency Transport Equation

Abstract: This paper presents the results of tests and validations of the γ-Reθ model proposed by Menter et al. (2006, “A Correlation-Based Transition Model Using Local Variables—Part I: Model Formation,” ASME J. Turbomach., 128, pp. 413–422), which was extended by in-house correlations for onset location and transition length. The tests performed were based on experimental data from the flat plate test cases available at the ERCOFTAC database as well as on experimental data from the turbine blade profile investigated a… Show more

“…We report on one test on wake-induced transition by Pacciani et al [91] on the suction side of the T106A blade and two tests on wake-induced transition by Piotrowski et al [122,145] on the suction side of the N3-60 blade. Later, we illustrate the predictive qualities of four transition models for wake-induced transition on the suction side of the N3-60 blade.…”

“…With [213,214,215,216,217] and a further extension to include the three-dimensional crossflow instability transition phenomenon [218,219,220] before the disclosure of the correlations used by Menter, Langtry and colleagues [183]. Since then improvements have been proposed with mixed succes [221,222].…”

“…Choudry et al [ They concluded that the γ − Re θ model performs well for bypass transition, but less for separation-induced transition, as opposed to their model that performs better in the latter case and worse in the former. Piotrowski et al [229,213] compared the PUIM [172,173] and the γ model of Lodefier & Dick [9] with the γ − Re θ model for wake-induced transition on the N3-60 cascade, which showed satisfactory results. Dick & Kubacki [167] compared the γ model, the k − k L − ω, Kubacki et al's model [182] and Kubacki & Dick's model [191] for the same case.…”
