“…Patients with decreased immune response, especially with primary immune deficiencies, will be more susceptible to pyogenic infections, including iliopsoas abscess. In more than three-fourths of cases, S. aureus has been causing bacteria in primary iliopsoas abscess, but for the secondary type, Gram-negative or anaerobic bacteria usually grow on pus culture (51)(52)(53)(54)(55)(56).…”

“…Antibiotic therapy alone is reportedly less effective in cases where the maximum diameter of an IPA exceeds 3.5 cm [ 18 ] or when coronal CT images show it to be >5.0 cm and axial CT images to be >2.3 cm [ 19 ]. In patients with gas-forming and multilocular IPAs, surgical intervention is recommended because the success rate of percutaneous drainage is low, and the mortality rate is high [ 20 , 21 ]. In the present case, gas was not confirmed; however, the maximum IPA size was larger than 5.0 and 2.3 cm in longitudinal and transverse diameters, respectively, and antibiotic therapy alone was not indicated.…”

“…The pPAs are more common in patients younger than 20 years of age (2,20). Recent studies have reported that the prevalence of pPA has increased to 38.3% in advanced age (21,22). In contrast to the old literature, age distribution concentrated on the fourth to the fifth decades of life in Group A whereas the fifth and sixth decades of life in Group B in the present study, compatible with the current literature.…”
