“…This result certainly differs from the observation by Oakley et al. (57) that, when using a transverse tripolar lead positioned at T10–T11, they were not getting coverage of the low back.…”

“…This current study, using an 8‐contact lead, shows a further improvement in the revision rate to 4%. This result, as well as our observation in a larger group of patients reported earlier (31), shows levels of migration comparable to those after laminotomy placement of the lead (31,54,57). Another indirect indicator of lead stability, in our study, is the fact that only 20% of patients required any subsequent adjustment of their stimulator function.…”

“…Recently, the development of a transverse tripole array (+, -, +) system introduced the concept of electrical field steering through selective recruitment of axonal nerve fiber tracts in the dorsal columns. This technique simplifies steering the paresthesia electrically through the axial back region, while minimizing the stimulation of the nerve roots [21]. …”

“…Tripolar stimulation seems to be useful in reducing axial back pain, which is more difficult to treat than the radicular one. [475198116117126] A five-column paddle electrode has recently been developed and approved by the Food and Drug Administration. This lead is thought to have more precise field control, allowing for modulation of a greater lateral area of the spinal cord, which is useful for treating low back pain.…”
