Treatment Methods for the Remediation of Amines: A Review

Abstract: Various organic amines, most of which both toxic and carcinogenic, are being used extensively worldwide in the syntheses of azo-dyes, polyurethane, pesticides, nylon and many other nitro-aromatics. However, the uncontrolled discharge of these products, back into the environment, releases many primary or intermediate products with similar or even worse levels of toxicity. Therefore, knowledge of the degradation and complete mineralization of these amines, using best techniques with optimum efficiency, is needed… Show more

“…[ 17 ] Therefore, polymers with a primary amine end group gained much interest due to their potential application areas, not only in various biomedical applications but also in fi elds such as surface science and adhesion materials. [ 20,21 ] The introduction of primary amine groups in polymers synthesized via RAFT is not straightforward as the trithiocarbonate functionality is sensitive to aminolysis. [ 22 ] Therefore, an important challenge is the development of a versatile and easy RAFT synthesis method for heterotelechelic polymers with a primary amine as one of the end groups.…”

“…The use of nZVI for groundwater pollution remediation offers an affordable, fast, and non-invasive alternative to current treatment practices [6][7]. Due to their extremely small size and large surface area, nZVI particles move through soil and react quickly with contaminants.…”

“…Amines are used in the syntheses of azo-dyes, polyurethane, pesticides and many other products. The degradation of amines is facilitated both by Advanced Oxidation Procedures (AOPs) and non-AOPs such as biodegradation [ 24 ]. AOPs are based on the generation of hydroxyl radicals which can be facilitated chemically (Fenton´s reagent), photo chemically (UV/TiO 2 /H 2 O 2 , O 3 ,/UV) or sonolytically (ultrasound).…”
