Abstract:Estimating the number of trees within a forest stand, i.e., the forest stand density (FSD), is challenging at large scales. Recently, researchers have turned to a combination of remote sensing and machine learning techniques to derive these estimates. However, in most cases, the developed models rely heavily upon additional data such as LiDAR-based elevations or multispectral information and are mostly applied to managed environments rather than natural/mixed forests. Furthermore, they often require the time-c… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
