Triband Compact Printed Antenna for 2.4/3.5/5 GHz WLAN/WiMAX Applications

Abstract: This research presents a triband compact printed antenna for WLAN and WiMAX applications. The antenna structure consists of a folded open stub, long and short L-shaped strips, and asymmetric trapezoid ground plane. Besides, it is of simple structure and operable in 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (5.2/5.8 GHz) WLAN and 3.5/5.5 GHz WiMAX bands. The folded open stub and long and short L-shaped strips realize impedance matching at 2.4, 3.5, 5.2, and 5.8 GHz, and the asymmetric trapezoid ground plane fine-tunes impedance matchi… Show more

“…To realize an AR below 3 dB (≤3 dB), a diagonally adjoining branch was integrated into the proposed antenna scheme as part of the partial ground plane. A transmission-line model was introduced to analyze a microstrip patch antenna using a series and parallel resonant circuit, where the bandwidth is given by Equations (2) and 3, respectively, and the resonant frequency can be calculated using Equation 4 [20]. Figure 5 shows the equivalent circuit model of the inverted L-shaped planar monopole antenna on a partial ground plane in vacuum and with the FR-4 substrate.…”

“…Multiband monopole antennas have been designed using multiple branches in which each branch resonates over a different band [1][2][3][4][5][6]. The effective length of a branch is about λ/4 where λ is the wavelength corresponding to resonating frequency of that branch.…”

“…One or more branches are added to a branch to achieve multiple bands. Slot and slits are introduced in radiating element and ground plane to obtain the desired bandwidth [1][2][3][4][5][6]. A meander line branch is attached to a G shape monopole antenna to achieve tri-band operation [1].…”

“…Ground plane soldered with external conductor using co-pivotal and afterward the middle conductors are checked not to have cut off the ground plane. [6] Creator proposed triband minimized printed microstrip patch antenna that can be used for WiMAX& Wireless LAN applications. Microstrip patch antenna design comprises of collapsed open stub, asymmetric trapezoid ground structure plane, long and short Lformed strips.…”
