Trichoderma spp. and its effects on seeds physiological quality and seedlings development of African mahogany

Abstract: Trichoderma is a beneficial fungus that can be used in both the control of phytopathogens and in promoting germination and plant growth. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of five Trichoderma isolates (T09, T12, T52, Tc and Tce) in seven different application modes on seeds and seedlings of the Khaya ivorensis A. Chev. (African mahogany). Fungi applications were tested by microbiolization of the seeds, in the pre-planting substrate, by monthly applications in the seedlings and in four combinations o… Show more

“…In the literature, there are numerous other studies evaluating fungi of the genus Trichoderma as a biocontrol agent of diseases, as promoter of growth of agricultural, or forest species, presenting promising results [25,[50][51][52][53][54][55][56][57][58]. The results for E. oleracea found in this work show that Trichoderma can contribute to the growth of plants of this palm tree, allowing that sustainable practices can be adopted in the preparation of seedlings of this species.…”

“…Seedlings of Handroanthus serratifolius (yellow ipe) treated with Trichoderma showed increased height, stem diameter, number of leaves, and root dry mass compared to the control [ 35 ]. Increased height of plants treated with Trichoderma was also found in Khaya ivorensis and Eucalyptus camaldulensis, with increased number of leaves and higher shoot and root dry mass, and Pinus radiata [ 36 , 37 , 38 ].…”

“…Trichoderma spp. used in seeds or in combination with substrate application were also effective on seedlings of Khaya ivorensis [ 36 ]. In seedlings of Parapiptadenia rigida , the application of Trichoderma via seeds showed the greatest increase in plant height [ 48 ].…”

“…This genus of fungi increased the dry weight of sugarcane leaf [2], 30% in dry matter production of bean plants [10], and up to a 100% increase in the growth of cucumber plants [11]. The application of Trichoderma in tree species has already been studied to verify its effects on germination and growth promotion, with promising results [3][4][5]12,13].…”
