Triple-band high-temperature superconducting microstrip filter based on multimode split ring resonator

Abstract: A compact triple-band high-temperature superconducting (HTS) YBa2Cu3Oy microstrip bandpass filter using multimode split ring resonator (SRR) is presented in this letter. Also, its properties and equivalent circuit models are investigated by even- and odd-mode analysis. Moreover, design method of the proposed triple-band HTS filter for the applications of global positioning system at 1.57 GHz, worldwide interoperability for microwave access at 3.5 GHz, and wireless local area networks at 5.8 GHz is discussed. “…48,49,50 Superconducting multi-mode composite SRRs have been used as microwave filters and show very low insertion loss and excellent out-of-band rejection. 51,52 More recently a novel compact fractal superconducting resonator has been developed utilizing only narrow superconducting lines, making it less susceptible to external magnetic fields. 53 This 6 GHz resonator was so small that it could be integrated on to a quartz tuning fork 54 and used for near-field scanning microwave microscopy.…”

“…Compact lumped-element superconducting resonators were developed earlier for use as backward-wave microwave filters [47][48][49]. Superconducting multi-mode composite SRRs have been used as microwave filters and show very low insertion loss and excellent out-of-band rejection [50,51]. More recently a novel compact fractal superconducting resonator has been developed utilizing only narrow superconducting lines, making it less susceptible to external magnetic fields [52].…”

“…Each pair of zeros in CQ introduced by cross coupling can be tuned independently [115]. The research group in the East China of Jiaotong University, proposed a T-shaped stub-loaded split ring resonator (SRR) [116], a dual-band HTS bandpass filter by using a modified SRR [117] and two kinds of miniaturized HTS multimode bandpass filters [118], [119]. vi) For the tunable filters, the IOP CAS group constructed a 4-pole narrow-band bandpass filter employing semiconductor varactors [120].…”

“…Moreover, to realize a compact footprint, multi-mode resonators based MBPFs are presented using numerous topologies. In [4] and [5], authors use high-temperature superconducting (HTS) stub loaded resonators and multi-mode split ring resonators (SRRs) to design tri-band MBPFs, respectively. Very good insertion losses are observed for the two cases.…”
