“…Studies comparing the productivity (Hagman et al, 2009), the yield quality, in terms of dry matter (Carillo et al, 2012) and nutritionally important compounds (Carillo et al, 2012;Lombardo et al, 2012), under organic cultivation practices with respect to conventional agriculture, are reported in literature, although no clear trend was ascertained. It was established that potato yields and tuber quality can vary according to cultivar (Arvanitoyannis et al, 2008) and cultivation system, but they are also highly responsive to water availability (Ierna and Mauromicale, 2012), nitrogen dynamics (Haase et al, 2007), cover crop (Canali et al, 2010) and fertilizations (Uchino et al, 2012). A good alternative to traditional farming practices, also for potato production, could be provided by the use of compost obtained from the organic fraction of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW).…”
