Tunable 3 µm optical vortex parametric oscillator

Abstract: We propose a tunable millijoule-level 3-µm vortex laser formed with a 1-µm ns vortex pulse-pumped quasi-phase matching MgO-doped periodically poled lithium niobate (MgO:PPLN) optical parametric oscillator with a singly resonant plane-parallel cavity configuration. The wavelength of the vortex output is tuned within the range of 3.360-3.677 µm merely by controlling the temperature of the MgO:PPLN crystal. The maximum vortex output energy of 2.14 mJ is obtained at the maximum pump energy of 21 mJ, and correspond… Show more

“…A tunable (0.75-1.9 µm) optical vortex was achieved from a LiB 3 O 5 (LBO) singly resonant OPO [26,27]. A widely tunable (3-5 µm) optical vortex was obtained from a MgO:periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) or (KTiOAsO 4 ) KTA OPO [28][29][30][31][32]. A tunable 2 µm vortex laser output was also developed based on a KTiOPO 4 (KTP) crystal OPO [33][34][35].…”

“…98−100 for good reviews), we briefly highlight some interesting advances. These include intra-cavity geometric phase 101 for helicity control, spin-orbit effects 102 with high purity, vortex OPOs 103 to move into the mid-infrared, wavelength and OAM tuneable lasers 104 based on fibre geometries. Most of these solutions have been at low power.…”

“…Apart from compensating the walk-off effect with two cascaded crystals, the quasi-phase matching and non-critical phase matching without walk-off were widely used. For the quasi-phase matching, Yusufu et al [136] reported a tunable vortex laser based on the parametric source with a periodically poled crystal MgO: PPLN. A 1064 nm Nd: YAG laser was chosen as the seed light, and a spiral phase plate was adopted for tailing the pump light into a vortex beam.…”
