Tunable Optical Properties and Self-Assemblies of a Water-Soluble Perimidinium Imide Dye

Abstract

Synthesis of an unsymmetrically peri-annulated naphthalene dye, perimidinium imide (PrIm) has been reported here. Compared to the symmetrical and popular analogous NDI, PrIm showed red shifted absorption maximum. The water soluble dye showed tunable self-assembly behaviors and optical properties. The dye retains its photoluminescence properties in water.
