Tunable Self-Assembled Peptide Hydrogel Sensor for Pharma Cold Supply Chain

Abstract: Defrost sensors are a crucial element for proper functioning of the pharmaceutical cold chain. In this paper, the self-assembled peptide-based hydrogels were used to construct a sensitive defrost sensor for the transportation and storage of medications and biomaterials. The turbidity of the peptide hydrogel was employed as a marker of the temperature regime. The gelation kinetics under different conditions was studied to detect various stages of hydrogel structural transitions aimed at tuning the system proper… Show more

“…Gelain and co-workers reported an in vivo study of biomimetic electrospun SAP micro-channels suitable to support NSC transplant in spinal cord injury [121]. Important results in the field of SAPs as biomaterials are emerging for cancer therapy [122,123], as immunomodulatory agents [124], and against antibiotic resistance [125], as well as for tissue regeneration, drug delivery [126], sensing [127,128], 3D printing [129], and nanomedicine [130][131][132]. protofilaments of microtubule assemble playing fundamental roles in eukaryotic cells [134,135].…”

“…[7][8][9] The same treatment is applied to pharmaceutical products stored at a constant temperature. [10][11][12][13][14][15][16] To date, the most commonly used indicators for reporting temperature violations are based on radio frequency identification (RFID) and time-temperature indicators (TTIs) tags, capable of signaling when a given threshold temperature has been reached or exceeded, [17][18][19][20] or disposable colorimetric sensors. 21,22 Digital devices are costly and complex, often unsuitable for individual products.…”

“…[17][18][19] The LLPS of IDPs has also enabled diverse applications ranging from protein purification 20 , drug delivery [21][22][23] , self-assembly of artificial MLOs into nano-meso structures [24][25][26] , to injectable biomaterials and hydrogels. [27][28][29] Importantly, beyond the sequence, other external stimuli, such as pH, protein concentration, and temperature, have also been shown to affect LLPS. 30 Like synthetic polymers, IDPs can also exhibit thermoresponsive phase behavior, controlled by the spatial orientation of amino acid side chains and peptide-water interactions.…”
