Turbulence Structure and Mixing in Strongly Stable Couette Flows over Thermally Heterogeneous Surfaces: Effect of Heterogeneity Orientation
Dmitrii Mironov,
Peter Sullivan
Abstract:Direct numerical simulations (DNS) of plane Couette flows over thermally heterogeneous surfaces at bulk Reynolds number Re=104 and bulk Richardson number Ri=0.25 are performed. The focus of the present study (that extends previous studies by the authors) is on the effect on the boundary-layer structure of the orientation of the surface heterogeneity patterns relative to the mean velocity. The temperature of the upper and lower walls is either homogeneous or varies sinusoidally, where the temperature-wave crest… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
