Today, there is a great discrepancy between the number of recipient patients on waiting lists for an organ transplant and the number of donated organs. Negative attitudes toward organ donation are important factors in the lack of donors. Education is an important tool to change attitudes, so it is important to determine the attitudes of teachers and pre-service teachers. The aim of this research was to develop a reliable and valid scale to evaluate pre-service teachers’ attitudes towards organ transplantation and donation (OTD). The attitude scale development process was conducted on three different pre-service teachers’ groups for the purposes of performing the exploratory factor analysis (n=208), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) (n=480) and test-retest correlation (n=62) of the scale. It was established that the scale had two factor structure consisting of a total of 20 items. It was determined that the two factors determined explain 61.749% of the total variance. The CFA values confirmed the two-factor model with acceptable goodness of fit indices. The Cronbach Alpha coefficient for the total scale was calculated as .900. Test-retest reliability was calculated as .951. Finally, the results demostrated that this scale is able to measure pre-service teachers’ attitudes related to OTD use reliably. Nursing Students’ Attitudes Toward Organ Donation and Affecting Factors

Aim: This study aimed to determine the attitudes of nursing students regarding organ donation and affecting factors. Methods: This descriptive study comprised a total of 755 nursing students who studied at a university. The total study sample comprised 607 students who agreed to participate. The data were obtained using the personal information and the "Organ Donation Attitude Scale." Data collection tools were filled out by students in classrooms. Data were obtained by number, percentage, average, non-parametric analyses, and logistic regression analysis. Results: The average age of the students who participated in the study was 20.80±1.68. The positive attitude score of the students regarding organ donation was found to be 95.13±1.88 and the negative attitude score was found to be 59.31±1.94. According to the logistic regression analysis performed, the student's attitude toward organ donation increased 6.07 times higher than negative ones with low negative attitudes OR: 6.07: (95% CI:3.58-10.30); 3.60 times by the family with organ donation OR: 3.60: (95% CI:1.22-10.58); 2.31 times higher than those with high positive attitudes OR: 2.31: (95% CI:1.16-4.60); 1.87 times by female gender OR: 1.87: (95% CI:1.07-3.27); 0.38 times by trust in knowledge of healthcare workers OR: 0.38: (95% CI:0.22-0.68); and 0.21 times by knowledge of organ donation OR: 0.21: (95% CI: 0.12-0.38). Conclusion: The current study found that students had a higher positive attitude towards organ donation, but very few were determined to donate organs. It was determined that the wish to donate organs had the most effect on the attitude toward organ donation.

The Effect of Islamic Belief and Spiritual Well-being on Organ Donation in Turkey: A Descriptive-Relational Study

The aim of the study is to determine how Islamic belief and spiritual well-being affect the attitudes of individuals towards organ donation. The study was designed as a descriptive-relational study and included the participation of 402 adults in the eastern Mediterranean region of Turkey. For data collection, a personal information form, the Organ Donation Attitude Scale, and the Spiritual Well-being Scale were used. A statistically significant relationship was observed between the acceptance of organ donation according to Islamic beliefs and organ donation attitude. A negative relationship was found between organ donation attitude and the scores on the anomie sub-dimension of the Spiritual Well-being Scale, while a positive relationship was found between organ donation attitude and the scores on the transcendence and harmony with nature sub-dimensions. It was concluded from the results that Islamic belief and spiritual well-being have an effect on the organ donation attitudes of individuals.
