TurkPrime.com: A versatile crowdsourcing data acquisition platform for the behavioral sciences

Abstract: In recent years, Mechanical Turk (MTurk) has revolutionized social science by providing a way to collect behavioral data with unprecedented speed and efficiency. However, MTurk was not intended to be a research tool, and many common research tasks are difficult and time-consuming to implement as a result. TurkPrime was designed as a research platform that integrates with MTurk and supports tasks that are common to the social and behavioral sciences. Like MTurk, TurkPrime is an Internet-based platform that runs… Show more

“…To establish the experimental paradigm, we recruited 106 participants from the USA (mean age = 36.33 years, SD = 9.88; 34.9 females) using TurkPrime (Litman et al 2017) for a financial compensation of USD 0.80. Such channels allow researchers to recruit diverse samples and have been shown to deliver very acceptable data quality for academic research (Buhrmester et al 2011;Casler et al 2013).…”

“…Additionally, 252 Indian participants ranging in age from 21 to 68 years (M = 32.6, 22% female) were recruited using mTurk. TurkPrime (Litman, Robinson, & Abberbock, 2017) was used to verify that these participants were located in India.…”

“…Amazon Mechanical Turk has been used for collecting behavioral data for psychological experiments with positive results (Buhrmester, Kwang, & Gosling, 2011); participants have also been shown to vary in psychopathology symptoms (Shapiro, Chandler, & Mueller, 2013). Data for this study were collected through an adjunctive website, TurkPrime (Litman, Robinson, & Abberbock, 2016), which allowed us to specifically and flexibly recruit participants who were from the United States and were positively-rated respondents on Mechanical Turk. Additionally, participants in this sample were over the age of 18, were fluent in English, and provided informed consent.…”
