Two minute walking distance in cystic fibrosis.

Abstract: We have evaluated the 'two minute walking distance' in children with cystic fibrosis as an objective measurement of exercise tolerance. There was a strong correlation between walking distance and height in 89 normal children (r=072). Fifty children with cystic fibrosis showed a similar correlation (r=0-56) with a mean result of 94% of that expected for height compared with the normal children. There was a training effect in the normal children with the second walk being significantly better than the first, but… Show more

“…Alternatively, a two minute walk test (2MWT) has been proposed for populations with more limited capacity to walk [21][22][23]. Good intra-rater and inter-rater reliability of the 2MWT have been described in the elderly and following stroke [23,24] and excellent test-retest has been found in a general population [25].…”

“…Despite the ATS standardization for the length of the corridor during the test for adults (30.5 meters), some studies have used different lengths in order to make test performance viable [7][8][9] . Li et al 19 conducted a large study on children and adolescents with the aim of establishing reference values for the 6MWT in this population, however the length of the corridor followed the ATS criteria.…”
