Abstract:A two‐mode optical packet switching architecture using an optical multiport mode‐division multiplexing label generator and processor is proposed. By combining optical labels on two modes, the number of labels is increased exponentially. Beat noise significantly affects the label error rate, when multimode crosstalk is maximum. This impairment can be mitigated by time shifting the optical labels of the two modes by half of the label duration.
