Two New Triterpenoids from Lycopodium japonicum Thunb.

Abstract: Ten serratene-type triterpenoids including two new ones, named 3β-hydroxyserrat-14-en-21β-yl-formate (1) and 21β-hydroxyserrat-14-en-3β-yl-formate (2), were isolated from Lycopodium japonicum Thunb. Their structures were established by means of spectroscopic analysis. Both of these two new compounds are formates of serratene-type triterpenoids.

“…This plant was used as a traditional herbal medicine for the treatment of arthritis pain, contusion and myasthenia [1][2]. Previous phytochemical investigations of L. japonicum were mainly focused on the lycopodium alkaloids [3][4][5][6], and serratene-type triterpenoids [7][8][9][10], which were characteristic constituents of this genus. However, there has been little research on other types of compounds, such as flavonoids and lignans.…”

“…It is reported that Acanthopanax polysaccharides have shown various physiological and pharmacological effects, such as scavenging free radicals [6], antioxidation [7], cardiovascular protection [8], anti-inflammation, immunomodulation [9], anti-tumor [10,11], anti-radiation [12], lowering blood glucose [13] and so on. Because of the confirmed physiological and pharmacological activities, and the advantage of low toxic and side effects, Acanthopanax polysaccharides are considered to be greatly potential to be applied in the clinic, and much attention has been paid to it.…”
