Abstract:The unicellular eukaryoteParamecium tetraureliacontains functionally distinct nuclei: germline micronuclei (MICs) and a somatic macronucleus (MAC). During sexual reproduction, the MIC genome is reorganized into a new MAC genome and the old MAC is lost.
